This piece takes you on a journey through the movie, even if you haven’t seen the film the design excites you from beginning to end. From front to back to the disk there is a fresh and new idea that has gone into recreating the dvd cover and the disk captures the feelings, concepts, and essence of the film through beautiful imagery. The grunge texture, color pallet, and imagery throughout the design give you that Spike Lee feel. The imagery on the cover captures the iconic speaker combined with the concept of the heat and tensions flowing together to create an intriguing image which continues on to the spine of the color. Flipping the dvd to the back, I was able to capture the concept of the fire hydrant with a refreshing water burst placed in between the typography. The imagery realistic water burst portrays the raw emotions throughout this movie of love, hate, and not always being able to control your emotions. For the disk I was able to blend iconic imagery such as the fire hydrant and the speaker together through colors, textures, shape, ideas and typography to create something appealing yet unique and inspiring.
The color palette of the piece follows the same as the movie and composition of the piece is uniquely laid out allowing the typography to interact and live in the space of the imagery beautifully. From the speaker in the sun to the water burst coming out of the appealingly rendered hydrant, the design is exquisite while portraying the meaning of the movie.
